Nakai is a street-wear apparel brand that embraces the qualities of blackwork tattooing and graffiti. The clothing provides a raw, uncensored exploration of our innate human qualities and animalistic social traits as well as revelations about the ambiguity of life, death, and desire. Inspired in part by philosopher Adam Smith’s theory of self help and “the invisible hand,” Nakai influences contemporary youth to question modern social standards, emancipate themselves from a traditional mindset, and deny conformity in order to pursue their own instinctual interests. Nakai allows for a personification of an often sinister aesthetic; wearable artwork that encourages creativity and acts as visual propaganda for transforming our mundane world into a more visually entertaining place.
